Today in SF History: December 10Today in Special Forces History: 1969: 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) inactivated as part of the general slashing of special operations as Vietnam started to draw down. It would be reactivated in the late 1980s. In the meantime, its areas of operation devolved on other SF groups. 1956: US Army Psychological Warfare Center (USAPWC) at Ft Bragg renamed US Army Special Warfare School (USASWS). It was the parent command of SF under either name. 1951: 8086th AU (Army Unit) becomes the Far East Command Liaison Detachment (Korea) (FEC/LD(K)), 8240th AU, Republic of Korea. This innocuous name masked a variety of unconventional warfare initiatives. On the 15th it would be renamed UN Partisan Forces Korea (source: Special Operations Association, Special Operations Commemorative Book. Nashville: Turner Publishing Company (2005), p. 19). source: The Special Forces Regimental History Calendar, 1993. Special Forces Historical Society Research Organization, Seminole, FL, 1993.
