Category Image Not John Loftus Again!

Yeah, him again. This time he hasn't done anything dumb that I've come across, but another blogger (and a much more prolific and high-profile one), columnist Debbie Schlussel, has fingered him as a phony here.

Excerpt:
Mr. Loftus has presented himself--and continues to--as a "terrorism expert" over the years, and many foolish parties have bought in, including The Washington Post and FOX News Channel. FOX News hired Loftus as its terrorism expert, but fired him after he broadcast the address of a California home as being the home of an Islamic terrorist. It was not (the terrorist had since moved), and the innocent people who lived there had their homes vandalized. I'm sure that he did not do this on purpose and never meant for that to happen.

Indeed, Debbie has the weather gage of me on this, as she spotted Loftus for "a fraud" (her word) in 2002 ("Read More," or see her linked blog entry, for details), and I didn't go public with that impression until 2005. (In my original post, I also demonstrated that I had the impression that Loftus was not a military veteran. He was -- apparently a junior Army officer in the "hollow Army" 1970s, although it's uncertain which branch he served in. I am a retired combat veteran of OEF and spent most of my career in Special Forces; I was studying terrorists when terrorists weren't cool).

Like I said, Debbie says Loftus is a "fraud"; I don't think I actually said that, but my post includes the terms: "illiterate, intelligence buff. conspiracy-mongering nutball, and a know it all..."

I was addressing a particularly stupid pronouncement he made on an aviation matter. (By the way, since then it's come out that the reason the plane penetrated the ultra-restricted FRZ near the Capitol, not just the restricted ADIZ, is because it was herded in that direction by a US Customs Blackhawk that didn't have working radios... a shameful performance all round). Loftus thought that the plane should have been blown out of the sky... so he not only has no grip on the capabilities of terrorists and their weapons, he hasn't got much grip on his emotions or judgment.

Here's Debbie Schlussel again:

My first experience with Mr. Loftus, in 2002--well before FOX News hired him--showed me, glaringly, that he is a fraud. He spoke at a counter-protest to the University of Michigan Palestinian Students Divestment Conference. I was the keynote speaker at the event. At the time, Mr. Loftus had recently filed a lawsuit (which was dismissed) against Islamic Jihad terrorist/founder and South Florida Professor Sami Al-Arian, a man about whom I know, and have written, a great deal.

Mr. Loftus' speech betrayed him to be almost completely ignorant on Mr. Al Arian, Islam in general (claimed Mohammed loved the Jews and treated them well; tell that to the Jews who built Medina, whom Mohammed slaughtered, forcibly converted to Islam, or expelled), and to be a blatant liar. I watched in amazement as he claimed to the large audience assembled, that he was the attorney for INS, Customs, and FBI agents, and others who'd investigated Sami Al-Arian. I know several of those parties, and to my knowledge, none of them have ever been represented by Loftus.

Read, as they say, the whole thing.

After looking at my blog entry again (and cringing at how coarse it is), I note I also managed to use a few other terms to address or describe Loftus, including, "bog-ignorant, inept at English, national-security wannabe, paid mouthpiece for a foreign nation," and a term that I think sums Loftus up completely, despite being somewhat archaic: "four-flusher."

A pretty good match for Schlussel's "fraud." But then, great minds are tuned to the same wavelength.
